Recruiting agencies rely on speed. Getting high-quality candidates to the hiring manager within the first few days of posting a role can make or break the search process.

But most recruitment teams are stuck trying to manage a patchwork of tools—one for sourcing, another for outreach, and more for reporting and analytics. Without a unified foundation, recruiters spend hours managing information across disconnected systems.

After experiencing the challenges of the hiring process throughout product leadership roles, Aniket Naravanekar set out to build Skillsheet, a new approach to recruiting.

Introducing Skillsheet: The AI Operating System for Talent Teams

Skillsheet is an agentic platform purpose-built for recruiting agencies, staffing companies, and managed service providers, unifying sourcing, outreach, verification, and analytics into a single pane of glass.

“Recruiting is a winner-takes-all market. The first few days matter a lot,” explains Aniket. “So if you can get a couple of good candidates to the hiring manager quickly, your chances of making that placement are significantly higher.”

But most recruiters’ workflows aren’t conducive to speed. Managing disconnected tools requires tedious data wrangling and context switching. Back-and-forth interview scheduling can take days. And the sheer volume of applicants for most roles today makes it difficult to identify high-quality candidates.

Skillsheet is taking a different approach, providing recruiters with access to an extensive library of over 850M candidate profiles as well as agentic matching workflows to engage target candidates quickly. By displaying key candidate insights, such as how often a candidate has been contacted, Skillsheet helps recruiters make informed decisions and fill high-priority roles fast.

Aniket’s journey to Skillsheet

Aniket spent years in Product, first as a PM at Microsoft and RingCentral and later as a product leader at CHEQ and avante. As he started to build product teams himself, Aniket began to encounter inefficiencies in the traditional hiring process.

A moment of insight came when, after posting a senior PM job, he woke up the next morning to 800+ applicants. There was no way to evaluate them all in a timely manner, but at the same time, he didn’t want to disregard the effort people had taken in applying.

Aniket began to speak with fellow hiring managers, who repeatedly confirmed they were facing the same challenges. Prompted to explore recruitment data further, he found that the highest-quality hires come from intentional sourcing, with quality measured across tenure, candidate satisfaction, and hiring manager satisfaction. He recognized that a solution would need to empower recruiters to engage target candidates directly while also streamlining the applicant experience.

“People said, ‘that’s interesting, I have that problem too and I’d love to use your solution.’ I didn’t have a product, so I just asked if they’d be willing to pay $500. They’d say yes, and I realized that enough people are saying they’re willing to pay, I should probably go and build what I’m asking people about.”

Aniket teamed up with his wife, Aditi Bendre, who joined as CTO and the “brains behind the operation,” as Aniket describes, and set out to build Skillsheet. Just a year later, Skillsheet is supporting dozens of customers and helping recruiters achieve as high as an 80% hiring manager profile acceptance rate.

Aniket’s advice for fellow founders

In today’s world, it’s become faster than ever to build a proof-of-concept. But Claude can’t speak to your customers for you, Aniket explains. The only way to build a production-ready product is to understand customers' pain points. “Founders need to get in the market, stub their toes, and have a growth mindset to learn. That’s when they’ll discover what customers need and be able to build a much better product.”

And as development becomes faster, great distribution becomes a key differentiator. “You can have a perfect product. But if only five people in the world know about it, that doesn’t help. You need to find a unique, unfair advantage as a founder that you can use to get your product out there.”
