Nkeng and Eisenhower George-Kalagbor Are Building Homecierge: The AI Assistant for Home Services

Almost all services were transformed by the rise of mobile apps. Uber for transportation, Airbnb for travel, Spotify for music. But the home repair experience has remained largely unchanged. Homeowners are still acting as the project managers of their own houses, sourcing multiple contractors and juggling quotes with the hope that someone shows up to complete the job.
At the same time, contractor pricing isn’t always as transparent as homeowners would like. While 91% of surveyed homeowners say upfront pricing is a must-have, 56% say they’ve been “burned” by a contractor and 77% say they’ve been surprised by the final cost.
Eisenhower George-Kalagbor and his wife Nkeng ran into this exact challenge themselves. Renovating their Dallas duplex, they found themselves managing dozens of contractors across different trades. And when their AC unit died on a hot August Friday, they were left trying to find a last-minute solution and paying more than they’d anticipated.
They recognized the need for a more transparent, user-friendly solution, so they developed Homecierge, an AI-powered home-services marketplace.
Introducing Homecierge: Home Services, Without the Hassle
Homecierge is an app that connects consumers to contractors across plumbing, HVAC, electrical, landscaping, interior design, and more. The experience is centered around Homie, Homecierge’s AI assistant. Users can simply explain what’s wrong by voice or text, and Homie matches them with the best contractor based on pricing , availability window, and urgency for their needs, presenting an upfront price range for the service.
Established contractor directories, like TaskRabbit and Angi, run on lead generation. A homeowner’s job is sold to multiple contractors, all of whom pay to offer their services whether or not they get the job. Homeowners are forced to parse countless options, and pros are left out of pocket.
Homecierge is taking a different approach. The platform collects a 20% deposit against the estimate plus a $5 platform fee at booking, and only earns when the job is completed. Contractors get jobs with photos, scope, and deposit in place, and homeowners get matched with the right pro for their needs with price transparency for the job.
Eisen and his Nkeng are currently building and testing the platform, with 60+ homeowners and professionals providing feedback. The team is aiming to launch the platform across the Dallas area by the end of 2026.
Eisen’s Journey to Homecierge
Eisen has built an established career over the last decade, holding product and technology roles across firms such as Deloitte, JP Morgan, and HTEC. He’s also spent time at early-stage companies, including a B2B/B2C retail marketplace.
Eisen has always looked to be a builder and founder in the tech world, and after encountering challenges renovating his new home, he found a problem that he knew he’d have to solve himself.
Eisen and Nkeng had bought a fixer-upper duplex and planned to do the renovations. They began project managing and sourcing contractors, but soon found they were spending hours trying to find the right professionals. And whenever a trusted contractor was out of town, they were back to square one.
The team recognized that the most successful companies today, like Uber and Airbnb, created value by bringing consumers and professionals together in a marketplace. But the same equivalent didn’t exist for home services. So they set out to build it.
"I’ve been an idea man before, but not a founder,” Eisen explains. “This is the first thing that has come with so much conviction that we had to build it. This is the thing we want for ourselves."
Eisen’s Advice for Fellow Founders
From his professional product experience and throughout the development phase for Homecierge, Eisen has learned to become customer obsessed. Before writing a line of code, he surveyed consumers and contractors to learn more about their needs. Every chance he got a chance to speak to a contractor, he’d ask about their process and what they’d look for in a platform like Homecierge.
He admits that in certain cases, this research actually overturned his assumptions about what to build, such as how to facilitate trust within the platform. “I knew trust would be a huge thing, and my instinct was to build it into the platform itself. But from talking to people, I learned that trust is actually built through word-of-mouth in local communities outside of the platform. So our platform’s job isn’t to build trust, it’s to surface it in a way that’s relevant and helpful for users.”
